Most of Staffordshireâ?s surviving toll-houses are rectangular, brick-built constructions with small side windows, such as that at Withystakes. Numerous examples are included in this gazetteer, in addition to octagonal designs, including the picturesque Upper Mayfield, and the Gailey Top Lock toll-house, known locally as the Roundhouse.
