Detalls del llibre
This book details the 400 vessels that came into a bay on the Suffolk coast and never left it: sunk or stranded for the most part by gales, greed or gunshot; a timeworn minority abandoned or broken up where they lay. The earliest is a dugout from AD 850; the largest an 8,000-ton cargo liner sunk in the Second World War. The majority are workaday traders and fishing craft, none very big or greatly glorious, that navigated the Sunrise Coast in the Age of Sail. Detailed information given in charts and tabulated data is amplified in illustrations and seven graphic chapters about the character of Sole Bay and the vessels that sailed its waters, the life and work of their crews, the pilots and lifeboatmen who braved storms to aid them, and the families who mourned when, all too often, they failed to return.
