Detalls del llibre
For more than fifty years, closed gated communities have been the main form of housing offered by the real estate market of Bogota. Although they have been criticized by the academia, little has been studied about this model and its great impact on urban life, which includes phenomena such as the increase in the use of private vehicles, the discouragement of local enterprises and problems of coexistence and security. The book proposes to establish how much the gated cities of Bogotá have grown and trace their normative origin, explore the cultural conditions that have favored their success and propose solutions to their challenges. Island City/Ciudad Isla is an academic and action-based collective project trying to understand the implications of gated communities and provide policy and design solutions for upgrading the enormous stock of existing gated communities to inclusive housing projects contributing to a sustainable city. Members include: Ramón Bermúdez (Bogotá, Colombia, 1983), Daniela Sanjinés, David Kostenwein and Federico Ruiz Carvajal.
