This collection of over 200 old photographs and postcards of Haverfordwest bears witness to the rich and fascinating past of this important Pembrokeshire community. Few towns in Wales have a longer or more distinguished history than Haverfordwest whose official documents date back to the 13th century. The town's key role is indicated by the number of privileges, charters and fairs granted over the years. It also had the distinction of being a 'Town and County' in its own right, with a Court of Assize and a Court of Quarter Sessions. Haverfordwest Civic Society has selected some stunning images from the photographic record of the town. It has succeeced both in conveying the broad panoply of local activities and also in focusing on key the buildings, events and, of course, the generations of people who have made the town such a wonderful place to call home. Each page offers a freash insight into, or memory of the the day the circus came to town, the pageantry of the Summer Assize, Haverfordwest streets and busniesses as they once were, or, as the cover suggests, how cold it could be on those school cross-country runs! This is a book which doubtless will appeal to all those with an interest in and love for this town.
