This volume introduces the pathbreaking writings on political economy by the Japanese Confucian scholar Dazai Shundai (1680?1747). Focusing on Shundai's texts Keizairoku (1729) and its addendum Keizairoku shui (1744), it explores Shundai's anticipation of the transition from agrarianism to commerce in early modern Japan.
