Placing the evolution of alliance capitalism in the context of the globalizing economy, John Dunning explores the consequences of the economic and political events of the past twenty years for the economic jurisdiction of firms, markets and nation states, their impact on the structural organization of firms and on the domestic policies of national governments. The volume includes some personal reminiscences by the author about the evolution of his ideas and writings over the last thirty years and a comparative look at US and Japanese FDI in Europe. The volume also includes an evaluation of the current, and likely future, foreign MNE activity in Japan. The volume concludes with some forward-looking insights by the author into the paradoxes at the contemporary globalizing economy and of how these might be managed or resolved.
