William Legrand lives on an island near Charleston, South Carolina, and is virtually a hermit. His only companion is Jupiter, a former slave, who lives with him. When Legrand finds a gold-coloured beetle and a piece of parchment, it is the beginning of a search which leads to the discovery of a fabulous treasure buried by the infamous pirate, Captain Kidd.
