River Channel Restoration summarises the current state of the art for river channel, floodplain and catchment restoration, and provides practical guiding principles for river managers. Fundamental principles are illustrated with case studies and experiences in a wide range of settings, principally Northern Europe and North America. An objective is to guide river managers away from trial and error approaches to appraisal and design. A multi-functional approach to restoration projects is needed, encompassing disciplines such as hydrology, hydraulics, geomorphology, water quality, ecology and landscape. Although concentrating on abiotic factors, this book will be of considerable interest to all disciplines with an interest in restoration.
