For some time after its publication in 1720, opinion was divided as to whether 'Memoirs of a Cavalier' was fiction or non-fiction. After an account of his parentage, birth & upbringing, the eponymous Cavalier relates how the volunteered to serve in the army of the King of Sweden in support of the German Protestants.
