Studies of ancient printed culture have placed special emphasis on historical, literary and authorial aspects, but not infrequently have neglected the interrelations of textual genres and editorial genres. This work offers a basic informative guide that allows us to understand, analyze and describe the editorial processes of the past, from the perspectives of visual and material culture. The book exposes, in a clear and didactic way, the stages, processes, and division of usual tasks that were carried out in the printing presses between the 15th and early 19th centuries and describes the internal structure and design of the print, the uses of the image and various aspects of typography. These elements will make it easier for the reader to study and work with old books. The series Breve Biblioteca de Bibliología (BBB) is the first production dedicated to the dissemination of bibliology, created from the collective effort of four university institutions in Latin America: Editorial Eduvim of the Universidad Nacional de Villa María de Argentina, Ediciones UC of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Ediciones Uniandes of the Universidad de Los Andes of Colombia and Editorial Universidad de Guadalajara of the homonymous institution of México.
