English Phonetic is a book designed to help native and non-native speakers of English to learn how to transcribe phonemically and to help them improve their pronunciation.

The book includes a wide variety of written and listening exercises, including numerous transcriptions. All transcriptions provided are phonemic transcriptions (or broad transcriptions) and, this, identical to the kind found in the British main pronunciation dictionaries. Emphasis is given to the pronunciation of fuction words in connected speech to help non-native students acquire a more native-like pronunciation. A key to the activities is provided at the end of the book.
